The name Ottilie (pronounced oh-TIL-ee-uh) comes from Danita’s German grandmother—a woman of resilience, strength, and grace who, at just six years old, was sent to work in a laundry in the Netherlands during World War I. Her perseverance through hardship, her humor in the face of adversity, and her enduring spirit serve as the foundation of Ottilie Design’s core values: hard work, honesty, persistence, and excellence.
Ottilie is more than a brand—it’s a legacy. It’s a tribute to heritage, a philosophy of service, and a promise to clients that every project is approached with unmatched dedication.
Born and raised in rural Idaho, Danita’s love for space, texture, and form was sparked at an early age. Her natural inclination for sketching and spatial creativity led her to pursue a degree in Interior Design at the private Art Institute of Phoenix.
As a Junior Designer and Draftsman for a Scottsdale design firm, she not only honed her artistic skills but also developed the firm’s CAD (Computer-Aided Design) standards. Her path led her through Arizona’s competitive design scene, where she worked on award-winning residential and hospitality projects. In 2005, she joined a luxury home builder, deepening her expertise in architectural detailing, buildability, and contractor collaboration.
In 2009, Danita launched her first design studio, Otti Art, adding commercial projects to her portfolio. A few years later, a relocation to Utah and a pursuit in landscape design offered the perfect opportunity to rebrand as Ottilie Design—a name that reflects both personal heritage and professional ideals.
